BBC Question Time - Melanie Phillips

I dont know if anyone watched question time last night but that mad Mel really is not very clever.

I made a complaint to BBC:

Iam disgusted at Melanie Phillips comment that the killing of all palestinians could be justified on the grounds that they had elected a government "committed to a genocidal project". its deeply shocking how such an well known figure of such reputation and status could be so darn SICK! makes her no better then those who do kill innocent people! am saddened BBC1 even invites people like her, just alienating BBC1 from its Muslim viewers!

well well well...i finally got a reply!

Dear Miss Begum

Thank you for your e-mail regarding 'Question Time'. Please accept our
apologies for the delay in replying. We know our correspondents appreciate
a quick response and we are sorry you have had to wait on this occasion.

I note your concerns regarding comments made on the programme by Melanie
Phillips. Each week the panellists on 'Question Time' are asked for their
personal opinions on a range of issues raised by the studio audience. In
the programme to which you refer on 29 June, the panel were asked: "If the
captured Israeli soldier was your son, would you approve of the efforts
made to rescue him?"

All of the panel, as well as some of the studio audience, gave their
personal opinions on this question. For example one member of the audience
stated: "It is the people in Gaza who are suffering."

During the discussion on this particular issue, Melanie Phillips was
challenged on her viewpoint by both the audience and other panellists. You
may recall, for example, that in response to her comments on the
responsibility of the Palestinian people, Alex Salmond said: "I don't think
the child who died on the beach was responsible for Hamas."

Part of David Dimbleby's role as Chairman is to take a judgement on whether
a particular view has been sufficiently challenged or not, either by other
panellists or audience members, before deciding whether he should himself
make such an intervention. He is not primarily in the role of an
interviewer, as Jeremy Paxman is on 'Newsnight' for example. He is there
to facilitate good, lively and fast-moving debate, which would be hampered
if he himself intervened every time a panellist expressed a controversial
opinion.

Please be assured, however, that your comments have been fully registered
on our daily audience log. This internal document will be made available
to the 'Question Time' production team and Senior BBC Management.

Once again, thank you for taking the time to contact us.

Regards

Damian Whyte
